Nothing empowers like a young man’s belief in himself!

Your son’s high school years should be an exciting time, but for the parents of an athlete, the idea of selecting a college, figuring out finances and contacting coaches can be overwhelming. There are clearing houses, quiet periods, official and unofficial visits, transcripts, S.A.T. scores and game footage with which to deal. Now, the reality is, it can be well worth all the effort if your son lands an athletic scholarship. But many parents simply don’t know when and where to begin.

That’s why we are presenting area high school boys with an opportunity unlike anything else in the country. It has always been our mission to change the lives of young people by merging education, academic/life skills and athletic programs into a safe and nurturing environment. In keeping with our philosophy, we are hosting Top Pick Basketball Camp at Weaver High School, from July 9-11th. What makes this program so unique is that we have partnered with Right Fit Sports to introduce the students to a full college experience, and a personal athlete website that is good for their entire high school career. The cost of the camp is $300 per student, which includes lunch and a jersey, and personal player’s profiles on our Top Pick website.

While scouts know the most elite athletes, the top 1%, the majority must be empowered to showcase their skills. Simply put, coaches can’t contact an athlete they don’t know about.  Fortunately, basketball is classed as a "head count sport” which means the scholarships are "Full Ride". There are currently 329 Division I teams each carrying 13 full scholarships and 290 Division II teams each carrying 10 full scholarships–that’s more than 7,000 Full Rides. In addition, many Division III and Ivy League schools have grant money available that can substantially reduce tuition. That’s an enormous opportunity when you consider that several private colleges will top out at more than $50,000.00 for tuition, room & board in 2008-2009.

While there are many camps out there that will claim to improve your son’s game or even suggest that college scouts will be watching, no other camp has ever been equipped to create a college-recruiting plan that will help both the student/athlete and the parent. The merits of this camp have the potential to benefit your son’s future so profoundly, that we, The Hartford Knights, are proud to be sponsors.

Clearly, the opportunities exist for those who are motivated, but motivation must be coupled with knowledge. Invest in your son’s future–the return will be priceless!
